A diverse group of faculty, peer, and professional tutors staffs the Writing Center. We have expertise in virtually every aspect of academic, professional, and creative writing. You are welcome to request any of us by name when you make an appointment or come to drop-in tutoring. Not sure if we are tutoring on your campus? Amanda Beaulieu-Smith is an Instructor of English, Reading, and College Success. She has experience tutoring ESL students, students of diverse learning abilities, and students who are deaf or hard of hearing. She received her B.A. in English from Regis College in Weston, MA, and her M.A. in English from Rhode Island College. She peer tutored writing at Regis College and interned at the Warren Times-Gazette in Warren, RI. She will be happy to help students write essays for any class, resumes, cover letters, journalism articles, literary criticism, and any creative writing projects.

Meredith Brady has an Associate degree in Human Services from Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ and is certified as a Master tutor by the College Reading & Learning Association. She has tutored at Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ since 2012. She tutored with the English as a Second Language lab through 2016. Since 2017, she has tutored for the Writing Center. Helping all students learn how to effectively write in English so they can share their ideas with the world brings her great satisfaction.

Ezekiel Davies is a peer tutor. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and is continuing to put his all into his education. Ezekiel’s area of expertise is in subjects related to the English language, such as literature. He enjoys creative writing, and his ultimate goal is to someday become a teacher of English himself.

Deborah A. Earle grew up in New York State with family ties in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. With a B.S. and M.S. in Education from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, she has taught math and science on the middle school level in New York State and then fell into business in New York and Connecticut. Deborah started with the Writing Center in 2015, is a College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) certified Master Tutor, and has recently been designated as a Professional Tutor. She is a 2018 recipient of the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ Silver Shield Award for service. Deborah works with all ages and all subject areas, loves clarifying APA and MLA, annotated bibliographies, and has an emphasis on the sciences. Bring on the lab reports!

Michael S. Geary is Associate Professor of English and the Writing Center Coordinator. He received his B.A. in English from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and his M.A. from Rhode Island College. He teaches ENG 101, 102, 215, and several literature electives. He has also taught and tutored writing at Roger Williams University and Three Rivers Community College in Norwich, CT. He is happy to help you with MLA & APA essays from any class, research papers, technical reports, resumes, cover letters, and any creative writing project. He recently had an article published in The Journal of the Assembly for Expanded Perspectives on Learning.

Lisa Jolicoeur is a veteran high school English Language Arts with experience teaching graduate literature courses for teachers. She holds a B.A. in English from Stonehill College, a M.Ed. from Cambridge College, a M.A. in English from Bridgewater State University, and a CAGS in TESOL from Bridgewater State University. She is a literacy volunteer with adult English Language Learners and enjoys working with all types of writing projects in the Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ Library Learning Commons!

Amy Mackin holds a BA in Communication from Curry College, an MFA in Creative Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and currently is completing an MA in American Studies at UMass Boston. She has published creative work and criticism in literary journals, newspapers, and magazines. Amy also has over a decade of professional communications experience and has held leadership writing roles in the public health, science, and higher education sectors. She enjoys assisting students with all types of academic and creative writing projects.

Robert Mangiaratti is a retired lawyer. He received a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a JD from Boston College Law School. Mr. Mangiaratti used writing skills nearly every day of his long legal career. His written works included: briefs, memoranda, correspondence, opinions, and published articles. Mr. Mangiaratti also taught numerous continuing legal education courses. As mentor to law students and new lawyers, he stressed the importance of communicating complex ideas in concise and understandable language. He hopes that his years of practical experience will help Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ students become competent and comfortable writers.

Julie Martins graduated from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School’s Medical Assisting program in 2018. She has been an employed medical assistant for 4 years. She is currently finishing the Nursing program. Her hopes are to become an ER Nurse. Her interest in writing began after realizing the power it holds in communication as well as success in education.

S. Matt Read earned his MA in Children’s Literature and MFA in Writing for Children from Simmons College. He has written articles, reviews, and columns for Texas and Montana newspapers and dozens of puzzles for national magazines. He is a gentle reader whose goal is to help students find their inner editor. A speaker of French and a beginner in Spanish, he also understands the cross-cultural challenge of writing and thinking in a foreign language. Currently a development officer, he spends much of his time crafting grants and finding sponsorships for the Boston Comic Arts Foundation and its flagship festival MICE.

Chris Silverio is a professional tutor. His passion for education and writing led him to complete a master’s degree in Comparative Literature at King’s College London. Since then, Chris has pursued a career in education, and teaching literature, writing, and history. Presently, Chris also co-hosts a bilingual book club which covers a range of novels and authors split between English and Spanish sessions.

Chrisanne Souza holds an AA in Liberal Arts & Sciences from Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ, a BA in Literature from Wellesley College and an MA in Creative Writing from Boston University. She has published fiction, memoir, and poetry. She tutors across the disciplines and specializes in humanities writing such as literature, poetry, film, and art. She particularly enjoys tutoring creative writing, close reading, and critical thinking skills. She is also available to assist faculty and staff with advanced degree writing, academic or creative.

Kris Thompson, a 2014 Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ graduate, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice/Sociology from Westfield State University and is currently pursuing a master’s in Criminology. In addition to being a Writing Center tutor, she works as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader in Criminal Justice/Sociology courses and is a CRLA certified Master Tutor. Kris is passionate about helping guide students towards excellence in writing, particularly in the areas of annotated bibliography, opinion-based essays and research papers.

Lillie Wilson is a veteran journalist, science writer, and editor with a portfolio of more than 2,000 by-lines. She received her B.A. in liberal arts from Sarah Lawrence College, an M.A. in English from Brandeis University, and an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University.  She has taught professional writing at four-year colleges, including Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, and been tutoring Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ students in the Writing Center since 2014. She encourages students to bring in writing projects of all kinds, academic and non-academic. Never underestimate the power of an impressive cover letter alongside a resume or a high-impact statement of purpose on a college transfer application.
